How GP Appointments Work

GP Appointments are at 10 minute intervals and the GPs make every effort to run to time, however there may be occasions when the GP has to deal with clinical emergencies or complex issues and this could lead to their surgery overrunning. If the GP is running late the receptionist will let you know.

Please ensure you arrive promptly at your appointment time. As the GP appointments are for ten minutes, if you arrive more than 10 minutes late you have effectively missed your appointment and will be asked to re-book. If you no longer require an appointment that you have booked please cancel it as soon as possible and at least one hour before the appointment time.

Doctors' appointments are available morning and late afternoon Monday-Friday, i.e. two sessions per working day.

Please Note:  Different doctors work on different days and times and some doctors are only here part-time. You may be unable to book an appointment with your preferred doctor; however we will do our best to accommodate your preference. There is a leaflet available at reception showing the current appointment schedules.

  

 

If You Want to Book in Advance:

  • We have appointments available up to 3 weeks ahead - these can be booked in person or using the on-line booking facility.
  • You can register for the online service on-line book or please ask registration for your personal registration letter.

If You Need to be Seen as Soon as Possible: 

  • If the medical problem is urgent and there are no appointments available on that day - the reception staff will discuss your case with the duty doctor. The duty doctor will call you back for a telephone assessment.  In some cases the doctor will request to see you that day and will then book a face-to-face consultation. 
  • If the medical problem is not urgent, but you would still like to be seen as soon as possible, we always have access to a doctor within 48 hours. 

This can be by:

    • Booking an available appointment (on-line or at reception)
    • By attending one of our walk-in doctor clinics.

PLEASE NOTE:  GP appointments will be offered with whichever GP is available and Urgent Medical Assessments are with the duty GP only. Before the duty GP can allocate one of these appointments, the receptionist will need to be able to pass on information about the nature of your medical emergency. The receptionist will therefore ask for these details before anyone can deal with your request.

Emergency medical care does not include: repeat prescriptions, sick notes, long standing medical problems, non-NHS services (e.g. insurance forms, letters, etc.). Please use these appointments appropriately.

  

  

How to Cancel an Appointment

If you have an appointment that you are unable to attend please call and cancel at least one hour before the appointment time.

  • Our cancellation line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
    • Phone 020 8049 2512 and leave a brief message – speaking slowly and clearly – please state your name, date of birth, appointment time and the clinician you are booked to see.
  • If you are registered for on-line booking you can cancel your appointment on-line.
  • You can also reply ‘CANCEL’ to your appointment reminder text.
  • Lastly, you can visit reception to cancel your appointment

Please Note: If you are registered for online services, you can cancel your appointment online even if the appointment was booked with reception.

We routinely monitor all attendances and patients who fail to attend booked appointments and thereby disadvantage other patients may be deregistered.

  

 

Out-of-Hours Urgent Medical Problems

  • After 18:30 in the evening until 08:00 the next morning, plus all day at weekends, Bank Holidays and Thursday afternoons - please use our out-of-hours service for URGENT MEDICAL PROBLEMS ONLY - Call NHS 111

 

 

GP Walk-In Clinic

The GP walk-in clinic is available Monday to Friday morning from 08:30.  You do not need an appointment to attend.  Patients are seen in order of arrival.

(Walk-in clinics may be cancelled at short notice in line with staff availability.)

Please note: Medical Reports needing an examination require a booked GP appointment. There is a cost for this service (costs to be discussed at reception).

  

 

The Nurse and HCA team

Some services require an appointment with a nurse or health care assistant rather than a GP consultation.

 

Note: Many nurse and HCA appointments can be booked using the on-line booking service at: patient.emisaccess.co.uk

 

The wide range of services provided by the nurse and HCA team include:

  • Cervical Cytology (smears) (Online booking available)
  • Family Planning (Online booking available for Contraceptive pill and Depo-provera injection only)
  • Sexual Health (women only)
  • General Treatment (e.g. blood pressure checks)
  • Lifestyle Advice (e.g. diet and exercise etc.) 
  • Travel Vaccinations* (Online booking available for single country only)
  • Registration Checks 
  • Blood tests (Online booking available)
  • Asthma Check (Online booking available)
  • Diabetic and COPD reviews
  • General Vaccinations (e.g. tetanus, shingles etc.)
  • Baby Vaccinations (from 8 weeks old)

*If you are booking Travel Vaccinations online please specify the country you are visiting in the 'appointment reason' box.
